It is unclear why Brahmastra is being boycotted despite not being over-promoted, or a remake. Netizens seem to have an answer.

Brahmastra is set to release in theatres on September 9 after eight years of delays. However, the controversy-plagued film has been catching flak from the boycott gang ahead of its release.

Brahmastra is reportedly one of Bollywood’s most expensive movies to date. Moreover, it boasts an impressive cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna, and Amitabh Bachchan amongst others.

The film has neither been over-promoted nor is it a remake of an old film. So, why is Brahmastra boycotted before its release?

Why Is Brahmastra Being Boycotted?

People are no longer boycotting movies due to objectionable content. Instead, they are sparing no effort to find the stars’ old interviews, comments, and tweets to create a reason to boycott a film.

To recap, Bollywood has previously come under fire from the people for supporting nepotism and delivering unoriginal content.

Vikram Vedha was boycotted for being a remake of a south Indian movie, while Laal Singh Chaddha was shunned due to Aamir Khan’s controversial statements.

Likewise, Dobaaraa was boycotted because Anurag Kashyap and Taapsee Pannu didn’t take the boycott trends seriously in interviews.

However, it is still unclear why are people boycotting Brahmastra.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Old Video Angers People

Twitter is currently teeming with hashtags #BoycottBrahmastra to #BoycottRanbirKapoor and #BoycottAliaBhatt. In an old video, Ranbir admitted that he enjoys eating beef.

As a result, many in the Hindu community where beef is forbidden were enraged. Moreover, he was called out for making fun of Alia Bhatt’s pregnancy.

Alia Bhatt, on the other hand, was trolled for her reaction to the boycott trend. In one of the limited interviews she has given for Brahmastra, the actress suggested we should “boycott boycotts.”

This gave people a reason to boycott Brahmastra. Following Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely demise, netizens have started a virtual war against Bollywood for supporting nepotism.

So, one of the biggest reasons why people are boycotting Brahmastra on social media is because both Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor are star kids. In other words, they feel the leading stars are mere products of nepotism, according to a report by MenXP.

While nepotism isn’t good, it doesn’t mean all-star kids are bad actors. For instance, Ranbir and Alia have given power-packed performances in films like Gangubai KathiawadiHighway, and Rockstar.

Moreover, the negativity around the industry isn’t likely to encourage outsiders from pursuing their dreams of making it big in Bollywood.
