With his historical knock of 215 runs 0f 147 balls against Zimbabwe, the 35 year old West Indian power hitter Gayle becomes the first man to score a double century in world cups, he manage to get over the Gary Kirssten’s 188* (previous best in world cups) against UAE in 1996.
Now Gayle is the only cricketer to hit a century, a double century and a triple in international T-20, one-day and test cricket respectively, including these he broke many more records with his electrifying inning. Have a look at the records that Cris Gayle broke here on Tuesday-
The quickest double century in ODIs – Gayle took just 138 balls to reach the milestone, beating the Sehwag’s record of 140 balls against West Indies. The first West Indian to score a double hundred- Gayle is now the first West Indian to reach 200 runs in 50 over international cricket & fourth in the world after Sachin Tendulkar,Verendra Sehwag and Rohit sharma who holds the record of scoring highest individual score in one-day internationals(264 runs).
2nd west Indian to reach 9000 runs- Cris becomes the 2nd West Indian batsman to score more than 9000+ runs after Brian Lara. Gayle also holds the record of scoring 22 century in ODIs, the maximum number of ODI hundreds by an West Indian batsman.
