Although Ellen DeGeneres apologized to her former employees and fans during the Ellen Show premiere, not everyone seems pleased with how she handled the controversy.
A considerable number of viewers dubbed DeGeneres’ apology as insincere, claiming her words seemed empty. In an interview with BuzzFeed News, one former Ellen Show employee accused the funny woman of turning her trauma into a joke, and also made the issue about her when it is not.
Aside from that, Today show host Alison Langdon also criticized her apology. “You could tell she wasn’t comfortable delivering it. She got the tone completely wrong. It felt like it was actually going somewhere, but then there was this slapstick moment,” Langdon said.
Private Sydney Columnist Andrew Hornery weighed in on Portia de Rossi’s wife’s apology, stating that everyone should already forgive the host. “She has now offered her third and most public apology as the scandals that have riddled her TV show since the start of the year threaten her future career,” Hornery wrote for The Sydney Morning Herald.
Hornery went on to note that DeGeneres was once again tagged as disingenuous and her apology was labeled fake by her loudest critics, which, he wrote, are many. Admitting that DeGeneres may have done something wrong, the columnist said she is been treated as though she is Harvey Weinstein, a former film producer, and convicted sex offender.
He went on to say that he believed DeGeneres when she publicly apologized to those affected by the toxic work environment claims. Noting that she is a busy woman, Hornery said he believed her when she said “I want to say I am so sorry to the people that were affected.”
Furthermore, the columnist pointed out that DeGeneres and prone to err just like everyone else, and urged everyone to forgive her for her mistakes. DeGeneres revealed this week that she is selling $10 million worth of artwork, which Bloomberg suggests is a sculpture by Alexander Calder and the Basquiat work through Sotheby’s Gallery in the Hamptons.
