Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrated their first Thanksgiving in their new California home.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry moved to the Santa Barbara community of Montecito over the summer. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are celebrating their first Thanksgiving along with their son Archie Harrison in the California home.
E! News reported that the couple will enjoy a quiet dinner with their son, while PEOPLE confirmed that they will be joined by Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, who will be making a short trip up from her Los Angeles home. Their Thanksgiving dinner menu not only features traditional dishes but also recipes made with fresh vegetables from their own garden.
It is a bittersweet time for Meghan and Harry, who recently announced that the former Suits actress experienced a miscarriage in July. Meghan wrote an emotional piece for The New York Times, opening up about the unbearable grief she and Harry endured after the loss.
“Sitting in a hospital bed, watching my husband’s heartbreak as he tried to hold the shattered pieces of mine, I realized that the only way to begin to heal is to first ask, ‘Are you OK?” she recalled. Four months later, E! News has learned that the couple, who revealed the news to their respective families before going public with it, are both doing well.
Meghan and Harry stepped down from their roles as the royal family’s senior members at the start of 2020. They attributed the decision to be able to focus on their shared passion for gender equality, social justice, and media literacy.
In Sept., they signed a $100 million, multi-year deal with Netflix to produce children’s programming for the streaming service. The pair took part in several speaking engagements over the past few months, giving fans a glimpse of their points of view on global issues.
Prince Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie shared a photo on her Instagram account on Thanksgiving, while the rest of the royal family isn’t celebrating the American holiday. “I’m thankful to all the front lines this year for your incredible dedication and perseverance,” she wrote.
“I’m thankful for all the companies and charities who donated as much as possible to those in need. I’m thankful for my husband Jack. I’m thankful for the love of family and animals that keep us strong. And I’m thankful for nature and all it gives us – a constant in 2020 when things have been so uncertain. Happy Thanksgiving to all those celebrating it today.”
