Olivia Wilde is drawing flak for comparing directing a film to coming out of the closet during a recently concluded interview.
If recently surfaced media reports are anything to go by, Wilde has signed a contract to direct and produce a secret Marvel film project, which revolves around a male character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While nothing is set in stone yet, FreePressJournal suggests Spider-Woman could be playing a central role in the film.
In the Off Camera camera interview with Sam Jones that has created a controversy surrounding the actress, she said, “I almost feel like someone who’s come out of the closet.”
There’s this feeling of honesty about what I really want to do, and it’s a level of comfort that comes from being true to yourself that I haven’t felt in a long time.”
Some fans accused her of “invalidating the LGBTQ community,” however, others felt that nothing she said was in any way offensive. Here’s how the Twitterverse reacted to her statement.
no because olivia wilde literally comparing ‘coming out’ with fucking changing her profession from acting to directing is sick.
i know she has been there and done stuffs for the lgbtq+ community, but this is simply so messed up. pic.twitter.com/10ixh9gtr3— sham ♡s you (@lourryshabit) May 10, 2021

I am not an Olivia Wilde fan and honestly couldn’t pick her out of a lineup, but I’m shocked at how much hate she’s getting because she said becoming a directing felt like coming out? It’s hardly a great analogy but I’m struggling to see the homophobia.
